TELLING THE NEXT GENERATION
We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done. Psalm 78:4
God commands parents to tell their children about all the praiseworthy things he has done - - - creating the universe from nothing, redeeming creation through the work of Jesus Christ, and drawing people closer to him through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Parents are responsible for teaching their children about God. But most parents today can't provide their children with a Christian education by themselves. Most parents need help from the rest of the Christian community in order to saturate their children's lives with God's Word. In some ways, parents in Bible times had it easier than modern parents - - -they spent all day with their children. Nowadays children go to school and are out of their parents' sight for six or more hours a day. And most parents don't know how to tell their children "the priaise worthy deeds of the Lord" in algebra, history, biology, or technology.
More and more parents today are choosing Christian Schools. The teachers in these schools help students see God in science, math, literature, art, geography, and physical education. And the teachers train students to be disciples of Jesus Christ whether he calls them to be missionaries, nurses, farmers, lawyers, or engineers.
Christian schools partner with parents as they keep their commitment to tell the next generation the praise worthy deeds of the Lord.
A CHRISTIAN TEACHER IS:
A MIND through which Christ THINKS
A VOICE through which Christ SPEAKS
A HEART through which Christ LOVES
A HAND through which Christ HELPS
YOU'RE JUST LIKE . . . . . . .
"Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." Philippians 4:9
We have all heard it before. . . . . "you're just like your mother!" or . . . . . . "Like father, like son."
With either pride or chagrin, we note the characteristics that we find ourselves repeating from our parents, and we watch our children incorporate our mannerisms into their lives.
It is said that imitation is the highest form of flattery. But it's more than that. Imitation is also a natural learning instinct. The Bible makes extensive use of this imagery. For example, the apostle Paul encouraged the Philippians believers to imitate him. And Romans 8:29 says that it is God's intent for us to imitate Jesus.
Applied to education, this wonderful process of imitation has at least three key components:
Whom will your child imitate?
What will your child believe?
And ultimately, How will your child live?
The answers to those questions will be directly affected by the types of people who have an influence in your child's life - - -parents, friends, and educators. Does your son or daughter have the right kind of role models? Is she being challenged to develop a mature faith? Is he making godly choices about how to live?
You will find people who are good role models for your children at our Christian school. And Mount Calvary Lutheran School stands ready to support all those families who are intent upon integrating God's Word into lives that bring hope, justice, and peace to a waiting and watching world.
